Coming out of the closet is hard enough for Todd without having the likes of Eva block his efforts. Eva is an anesthesiologist with a fascination for the Santeria Goddess, Oshun, and an obsession for having Todd as her own. Todd is oblivious, as Eva stalks him and even steps over the edge committing murder, and placing Todd under the suspicions of the police, before creating a twisted tale of lies and deception. The story takes the reader from Kansas City to Manhattan to Key West, all to witness Eva’s efforts blow up in her face, as she drives Todd into the arms of the unexpected, the love of his life.

"The Closet Case" is an entertaining although not terribly complex story. It follows Todd, a recently out-of-the-closet gay man, and Luke, his best friend, as they deal with Eva, an acquaintance from college who has dangerously fixated on Todd. There's a little bit of sex, a little bit of romance and a little bit of murder. The action ticks along nicely, moving from incident to incident at a brisk pace. There are instances, however, when information gleaned by one party or another is not passed on to the person who needs it, which causes the story to lose credibility. For example, Todd and Luke realize that Eva must have provided a particular item of significance to Todd but fail to alert the investigating detectives, leaving them to discover it on their own. None of the characters have a great deal of depth although each is given a character trait or two to distinguish them. One odd character trait that doesn't really serve a purpose is that Eva is a santera. Santeria doesn't really play any role in the story so introducing it doesn't add anything substantive. And unfortunately the spelling and editing errors that plague e-publishing are all too present here, frequently distracting the reader as he tries to puzzle out what a particular word is supposed to be or what a sentence means. Still, for the right price (I happened to get it free and wouldn't pay more than a couple of bucks) "The Closet Case" is an OK way to pass a few hours.

The Closet Case edition by Christine M Pullman Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I get so mad when I buy a book that gets great reviews and it's a dud. To me anyway. Poorly written and certainly not worth the $3.99 I paid. I want my money back, .
This is a fast read and a fun one. What I had hoped for was more of a mystery but the author's decision to show us both the side of the intended victim and the side of the psychotic stalker makes it a complete delight. It never strays into a path of completely dark and disturbing (though there were some very gratuitous moments that almost made me feel like I was reading a Harlequin novel). While a few things you can see coming a mile away (Todd's intimate relationship), I never felt let down with this book.

Those of you who are bookworms will notice there are quite a few things wrong editing wise with grammar but that should not hinder your overall enjoyment of this.

It appeals to both a gay audience and even a straight audience on the subject matter. (I lean towards the gay audience here...I mean -look at the title!)

I'd give it five stars but I felt the ending was not nearly as intense or dramatic as the first half of the book. I also didn't find the roles of the detectives to be very interesting. I found them to be more of a cookie-cutter stereotype, which didn't fit this particular story since the other leading characters weren't stereotypes.

All that said, the author definitely leaves you hoping for another installment of what might happen with the lead characters. And I look forward to reading it!
Weird and just creepy......I just didn't like it. I never finished it. I wish it didn't make me type a minimum word count for a bad review.
I found it interesting that we started right off knowing WHO the killer is, but that this did not distract from the story, as the other characters did not know. I agree with one of the other reviewers that the Santeria could probably have been left out, and I found one chapter where Eva got distracted for a night to be just a bit out of character for her, but not so much so that it would totally ruin my enjoyment of the book. The end, when it came, somehow felt just a tiny bit rushed but it worked well and I'm not sure really that it could have been any better.

I'd recommend it and would enjoy reading a sequel.
This could have been quite good if the author had spent more time developing the supporting characters. As it is, some plot lines seem seem pointless (especially the villain's religion) and the sex fantasy descriptions struck me as gratuitous.
The mystery in itself was decent and could have stood on it's own without the ridiculous ramblings of Eva/Mary/Nutcase. Oshun, my butt. Anyone who gets sucked into buying this book will be kicking their own butt. Too bad there are not zero ratings.
I got this as a free read several months ago and never got around to it but I was pleasantly suprized after reading it. Not too deep but enough to keep you interested. Some of the other reviewers mentioned it was "creepy" well yes it is a thriller type story stalkers are creepy, I thought it was well written without being needlessly complex! Will keep a lookout for this author in the future.
